My name is Nathaniel Hitt. I am a tattoo artist, freelance designer, maker,  and musician currently living in Fayetteville, AR. For some time now I have been fascinated with exploring the creative possibilities that lie within the contrasting dance between the old and new, ancient and distant future. I’ve drawn inspiration from many cultures, plants, technologies, and inner worlds, always looking to discover the common visual and sonic threads that weave it all together in hopes of creating something new that carries the fundamental patterns of life. Along the way, I have discovered many treasures and teachings that have shaped the way I create and co-create with my clients.

When I began the journey into tattooing, it quickly became clear that the possibility for a great depth and transformation was available when given the proper care and attention. The initiatory process of choosing to endure great levels of pain to mark and celebrate all forms of transformations and “checkpoints” can be a profound experience, carried with us for a lifetime. I don’t believe there is a best philosophy or way go about the tattoo process, but over time I’ve come to find a way that seems to be the most enriching for my life and enhances what I can offer to my clients.

I believe the most important element of tattooing is trust. Trust in each other so that we may communicate honestly and work efficiently, and perhaps more importantly trust in oneself so that we may walk with courage towards the always changing new versions of ourselves. This inner trust determines whether or not we are able to commit to something as powerful and seemingly permanent as a tattoo. When this trust and surrender is fully present between artist and client, real magic can happen in the artwork and tattoo sessions. It is my experience that the deeper the trust, the further we can go into an inspiring mysterious adventure. I have learned to trust the greater vision when designing a tattoo, and I’m devoted to serving the artwork and the wearer. Because of this, my approach often requires a great deal of patience from everyone involved, as I’m not interested in making an unnecessary compromise in design. Of course there will always be compromises that must be made when working with the organic nature of the body, but with proper design and dedication there is always a solution that can serve the greater vision.

If you would like to learn more about my work or are interested in working with me, please message me directly through my contact page and we can discuss your vision for a tattoo, along with more of the details of what to expect and how it all comes together. Any other commission inquiries are also welcome.
